What makes a wooden pool of Karibu?

A private pool in the garden is a true dream for young and old. The wooden pools from Karibu are particularly beautiful and durable. A wooden pool is an above-ground pool with an outer wall made of wood. The side walls are made up of individual planks made of Nordic spruce wood, 38 millimetres or 44 millimetres thick, depending on the model, and are simply plugged on top of each other during assembly. Inside, the pool is lined with a sturdy 0.6 millimeter thick foil, which seals the wooden pool very well.

When you buy a Karibu wooden pool, you can choose from different shapes and sizes. So they are not only suitable for splashing around, but also for swimming. The high-quality wooden pools are delivered to you as a DIY set, optionally with complete accessories such as filter system with wide-mouth skimmer and 25 kg quartz sand, pool liner and access ladder. Whether you want to order the optional accessory set or not, you can choose on the item detail page. One thing is certain: With the enclosed instructions, the wooden pool is quickly assembled. So the water fun can begin!

From the sketch to the decision – the right planning for a pool

First of all, you should think about where you want to place your wooden pool in the garden. Pay attention to the protection of your privacy by ideally choosing a non-visible part of your garden as the location for the pool.

Important: The pool must be able to stand freely. The pool walls must therefore not be filled with earth or used as a support for a slope. An exception to this rule are the rectangular pools or In-ground pools in our assortment. They are ideal for ground-level installation, but can also be installed without underground installation.

The location for the wooden pool should fit into the overall design of the garden. The best thing to do is to create a sketch where you draw the terrace, garden pond, playground equipment, garden shed, trees, flower beds, etc., so you will quickly find a suitable place for your pool. Once you have chosen a place, you can determine the optimal size of the wooden pool, choose a suitable model and easily order your Karibu wooden pool online as a DIY kit.

In order to create a particularly beautiful pool landscape in the garden, you should plan a garden house as a pool house next to your wooden pool. A Pool is much more than a changing room or a storage room for pool accessories. Sufficiently large and comfortably furnished, it is the ideal place to relax after swimming. Cleverly placed next to your wooden pool, it can also serve as a weather or privacy screen.

You can find more information on the page Pool Planning .

What substrate for a wooden pool?

Before setting up the wooden pool, care should be taken to ensure that heaped soils must be compacted in advance and that drainage must be laid in the event of groundwater or strata water. It should not be forgotten that the power connection should already be laid before assembly.

To give the pool sufficient stability, you first need to properly prepare the ground for the wooden pool and create a suitable foundation. A slab or concrete foundation that must be slightly larger than the underlay plan and at least ten centimetres higher than the ground is suitable. This way, there is no risk of the pool sinking in and warping.

Important: If the pool has or needs steel girders, these must be taken into account in the foundation. This is the only way to build an adequate foundation.

What wood for a wooden pool?

A wooden pool in the garden is exposed to wind and weather. That's why you should pay attention to the right type of wood when buying a wooden pool. Wooden pools made of spruce wood are recommended, whereby the wood should be pressure impregnated. The boiler pressure impregnation makes the wood particularly resistant to moisture, mold and pests, so that your wooden pool remains beautiful for a long time. This way, questionable tropical wood can be dispensed with and you will still enjoy your Karibu wooden pool for a long time.

Why pressure impregnation for the wood pool?

To ensure that you can enjoy your wooden pool for a long time, all wooden elements of the Karibu wooden pools are pressure impregnated. In boiler pressure impregnation, liquefied impregnation salts are pressed into the wood at high pressure so that they penetrate deep into the wood. This makes the spruce wood of the Karibu pools particularly durable, less sensitive to moisture and resistant to blue stains, fungi and pests. The slight green tint caused by boiler pressure impregnation is therefore a sign of quality.

By the way: The wood of our rectangular pools or built-in pools has a particularly strong impregnation of protection class 4. This ensures maximum possible resistance to moisture and the associated challenges (e.g. blue stains, fungi, etc.). The increased protective effect is extremely important for this type of pool, as these models are installed at ground level and are therefore surrounded by the ground.

Construction of a wooden pool from Karibu

If you buy a wooden pool that comes as a DIY kit, you should check the material for completeness before assembling. The pool is then set up according to the illustrated instructions. The planks are simply screed with double groove and F each put together. The floor protection fleece and the pool liner are then hung in place and the pool technology can be installed. Now all you have to do is fill it with water and enjoy the cool water!

You can find more details on our page on the Wooden pool construction.

The construction and maintenance of a wooden pool How do you make a pool childproof?

If you want to buy a wooden pool, your children and their friends should be able to use it without any worries. That's why you should make it as childproof as possible.

In addition to good water quality through careful care of the pool, the choice of pool model also plays a role in later safety. Karibu wooden pools are a good example of this: they stand above ground and are about 125 cm high in the case of the regular models. This means that crawling children and toddlers cannot get in unless the pool ladder is blocked or the pool has not been installed at ground level.

Good to know: In addition to models with a regular height wall (approx. 125 cm), our range also includes Mini pools with a wall height of approx. 69 cm and Mini pools with a wall height of approx. 78 cm .

In addition, a tear-resistant pool cover that is tightly stretched over the pool with ground anchors is recommended, or a solid cover made of plastic or wood. Additional security is also provided by a pool alarm. The device with radio transmitter is installed at the edge of the pool and immediately gives an alarm if something falls into the pool.

Despite all the precautions, bathing rules and vigilant care are still considered the most important basis for child safety of your wooden pool.

On this page, we describe in more detail how to create a Making the pool childproof .

The right care for a pool

To keep the water clear and hygienically clean, good care is important. The following should be noted:

Once a year, the water in outdoor pools should be completely changed, with spring being a good time here. Due to the good Filter technology from Karibu, the water in the pool is cleaned regularly afterwards so that it does not have to be refilled before each bath.

It is also important to carry out disinfectant germicidal shock chlorination once a year. Chlorine tablets or granules, an automatic dosing system with liquid disinfectant, an electrolysis system or active oxygen can be used for regular disinfection. In the case of algae infestation, a liquid algaecide helps.

In order to check the water quality, the pH value should also be measured regularly and should be between 7.0 and 7.4. If necessary, a pH reducer or a pH regulator can be used.

For larger soiling on the floor, it is recommended to use a manual floor vacuum cleaner once a week or regular automatic cleaning with a pool robot. Once a year, however, an extensive pool cleaning is necessary, which is best done during the water change.

If you would like to deal more with the topic, we recommend our page on the Pool maintenance.

Should you paint a wooden pool?

Karibu wooden pools are made of pressure-impregnated wood, which is well protected even without a protective coating. However, the wood can turn grey over time. In this case, a coat of paint can increase the protective effect of the boiler pressure impregnation on the one hand and visually enhance the wood pool on the other. In the event of dry cracks or damage to the wood, these areas should also be treated with a protective coating if necessary.

To paint pressure-impregnated wood, an aqueous wood protection glaze is recommended. It should be noted that pressure-impregnated wood should dry well for at least six weeks before the glaze is applied. Then nothing stands in the way of giving your wooden pool an individual touch with a little colour.

How do you winterize a wooden pool?

So that you can use your wooden pool again next spring, you should winterize it in autumn. To do this, you should first clean the wooden pool thoroughly and remove the autumn leaves from the bottom of the pool. Then you should lower the water level to below the skimmer, but do not empty the water completely. Now add an algae control agent, a hibernating agent and an ice protection pad or ice remover to the water. Last but not least, you should completely empty and clean all pipes and the filter system, store the boarding ladder (especially stainless steel) and safely cover the wooden pool with a winter tarpaulin.

We would be happy to explain to you in more detail on our special page how you can Winterizing the pool .

Making a pool "summer-ready" - This is how swimming is fun

When the temperatures finally rise again in spring, you can wake your pool from hibernation. To do this, proceed as follows:

First, the winter cover is removed. The wooden pool is then cleaned and the pool, including seals, hoses and connections, is checked for damage. Now the filter system is checked and, if necessary, cleaned. After the technology has been installed, the pool is filled with fresh water and the pool technology is tested.

Now all you have to do is ensure optimal pool disinfection and set the water values correctly - and the wooden pool is ready for summer.

Here you will find a more detailed description of how you can use your Make the pool fit for summer .

How long does a wooden pool last?

How long a wooden pool lasts depends mainly on three factors:

Firstly, the quality of the wooden pool and the materials used are crucial. Wooden pools from Karibu are made of pressure-impregnated wood, which is particularly durable and can protect the wood from fungal and pest infestation for several years. The components are precisely designed to fit and are assembled with high-quality fittings, which ensures good stability.

Secondly, the subsoil for the pool should be properly prepared. If the soil has been filled up, it must be compacted so that the pool does not sink in and the stability is endangered.

Thirdly, the lifespan of your wooden pool can be significantly extended by careful care. For example, damaged areas should be repaired quickly and the pool should be properly winterized in autumn.
