Our materials

Wood, the material with a future!

As a renewable natural building material, wood makes a major contribution to the environment. With the lowest production energy requirement, wood optimally combines ecological, building biology and economic advantages.

Types of wood and qualities

For our Summer houses we use solid spruce wood. This type of wood is particularly flexible and a highly renewable raw material with ideal properties for garden house construction. Especially in the colder regions, spruce wood becomes a hard and stable type of wood with dense growth rings. Unlike other softwoods, spruce wood absorbs only a small amount of water and is therefore well suited for outdoor use. However, in order to protect the wood from the weather for a long time, we recommend our coloured garden sheds or subsequent wood protection.

The quality of Karibu products begins with the careful selection of the right material. We use uniformly sorted spruce, pine and Douglas fir woods from the forests of Northern Europe. In short summers and long, cold winters, the wood grows extremely slowly. This results in very narrow growth rings, which give the wood particularly hard and resistant properties.

KDI boiler pressure impregnation - effective wood protection

We use the modern process of pressure impregnation for our woods. It is an effective and ecologically sound method for wood preservation. Liquefied impregnating salts are pressed into the wood under pressure and bond with the wood. This means that the salts cannot be washed out later, which ensures that the wood is protected for a long time and also does not pollute the environment. Pressure impregnation effectively prevents insect infestation, rot fungi, mould infestation as well as blue stain and mould. This means that the wood retains its stability for a long time.
