Solid construction or prefabricated construction?
Saunas are made of wood not only for traditional reasons, but also for practical reasons, because this natural raw material can create the special, health-promoting climate inside. When in operation, temperatures in classic Finnish saunas range from around 85 to 100 degrees. The wood stores both humidity and heat and releases both slowly and evenly. However, the wood does not get hot during this process, otherwise it would be different, for example, with an interior wall made of stone. Saunas from Karibu are made of original, natural Nordic spruce wood. This type of wood is very robust and also very fine-pored. A distinction must be made between two different types of saunas:
- One Log sauna or Solid wood sauna is built according to the classic Finnish model: Solid logs are stacked on top of each other with double groove and spring and mortised. With ready-made sauna sets, such as a solid wood kit from Karibu, assembly is particularly easy, as all elements, such as the walls, are delivered prefabricated at the factory and can thus be assembled in a time-saving manner. Within the solid wood walls, which are usually 40 millimetres thick, you can enjoy the particularly characteristic sauna climate, because the individual logs heat up as already described and release the absorbed heat evenly back inside. In addition, the walls offer natural insulation that prevents energy loss. This construction method can be used for both indoor saunas and outdoor saunas for the garden.
- The Prefabricated construction or System design is the cheaper alternative to the Solid wood sauna . The walls consist of multi-layered elements with an insulating material in the core. The inner and visible sides are clad with profiled wood, and hardboard is mounted on the non-visible sides. This offers a pleasant sauna climate and keeps energy consumption particularly low during operation. Due to the multi-layer structure, the walls of system saunas are thicker than those of solid wood saunas. The wall structure of the Karibu system saunas is 68 millimeters.
Sauna for the home: These types are available
If there is to be a massive Log sauna Be made of wood for indoor or outdoor use? Or a System sauna that you can integrate into your house or apartment? Karibu offers various models made of natural Nordic spruce, which can be installed quickly and easily by yourself.
- Solid wood element sauna
The 40-millimetre-thick walls of the solid wood panel saunas combine the best of two worlds. Due to the prefabricated wall elements halved in height, which are simply plugged into each other during assembly, a super-fast assembly is pre-programmed. At the same time, the 40-millimetre-thick solid wood planks are ideal for a perfect indoor climate. As with all our saunas, the roof here also insists on a system construction with mineral wool insulation, as a solid wood construction would be too heavy.
- System sauna
A system sauna is the cheaper alternative to the solid wood sauna. It consists of a frame construction as well as prefabricated wall and roof elements. These are multi-layered: The inner sides and the outer visible sides of the Karibu system fences are made of 12.5 millimetre thick spruce profiled wood, while the invisible outer sides are clad with three-millimetre-thick hardboard. Inside the elements is a 42-millimetre-thick mineral wool insulation. In addition, the roof is also multi-layered and insulated so that energy cannot be lost unnecessarily. The wall thickness of a system sauna of Karibu is 68 millimeters.
- Plug & Play Sauna
Are you looking for an affordable, space-saving entry-level model? A Plug & Play sauna is just right for you. This can even be used without a high-voltage connection. The Karibu models in solid or system construction have an optional control unit and can be operated with any standard household 230 volt socket. Prefabricated wall and ceiling elements allow the system saunas to be assembled quickly. Optimal insulation keeps heat loss and thus energy costs particularly low. The wall thickness of plug & play saunas from Karibu in solid construction is 38 millimetres, while the models in system construction have a wall thickness of 68 millimetres.
- Outdoor sauna
Would you like to enjoy your oasis of well-being in nature? If you fill up on fresh air after a sauna session, you promote your health by alternating hot and cold. A Outdoor sauna made of logs has particularly good and natural insulating properties due to its solid wood walls. Energy is not lost unnecessarily, but rather the heat is evenly released back into the interior. The Karibu range includes outdoor saunas in various sizes and roof shapes such as monopitch or gable roofs. In addition, some models are equipped with a practical Anteroom equipped. A special outdoor sauna variant is the Barrel sauna . It visually resembles a wine barrel and can also be placed in small gardens due to its compact shape.
